In this course, students will read novels and short stories, write a variety of assignments, and learn skills and strategies necessary for effective reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The instruction throughout this course is designed to meet the Pennsylvania State Academic Standards. The course will be delivered in six thematic units that are intended to add interest and excitement to learning. The course has a writing component which is built around the five-step writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing and publishing. Many lessons in this course provide links to websites to give students entertaining practice games as well as other useful information. Students will also be asked to use the Internet to search for information in certain instances.
